ST. ANTONY'S BHAVANBack

Surya Nagar is a residential colony in Ghaziabad district of U.P. It is situated on the Delhi border. On 3rd December 1990 Bishop Patrick Nair of Meerut Diocese gave permission for the Capuchins to build a church cum residence in Suryanagar. Viewed against future prospects two housing plots were purchased in January 1990 when Fr. Stephen Jairaj was the Provincial and Fr. Peter Celestine the Mission Superior. After some time the construction of two buildings was started.

On 30th June 1993 Br. Valerian came to Suryanagar and began pastoral ministry in the area. On 21st December 1993 Fr. Xavier Vadakkekara came to Suryanagar and began Media House, the communication apostolate of the region. Br. Michael joined him soon. On 25th January 1994 Media House was inaugurated by Br. Martin Poothokaren, the then Mission Superior.

On 4th August 1994 Shramik Vidyapoeeth Ghaziabad was inaugurated by Bishop Patrick Nair and started functioning from October 1994. On 10th June 1996 Fr. Jacob Kaniyaraseril joined Media House as Manager.

In August 1996 Media House started MITT (Media Institute of Technology and Training) in collaboration with SVPG. All these activities are carried on by the Society for Media and Value Education which was registered in December 1996.

Suryanagar church was a station under the Sahibabad parish. On 1st January 1997 Sahibabad parish was bifurcated and Holy Redeemers Church, Suryanagar became an independent parish. Br. Jacob Kaniyarasseril is appointed as the first parish priest.
Shramik Vidyapeeth, Ghaziabad (SVPG) which is now renamed Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) is a vocational training and continuing education centre under the H.R.D. Ministry of the Govt. of India entrusted to St. Paul’s Educational and Charitable society as its parent body. The Provincial is the Chairman of SVPG. Hundreds of young boys and girls from socially backward and economically poor background have already been trained in job oriented courses which are nearly 30 in numbers. It has its registered office at Suryanagar and two branches in Ghaziabad & Hapur.
